Fischer Family Recipe Book

The women of the Fischer family have an enthusiasm for cooking. As a result, they wanted to create a recipe book to highlight all of their favorite recipes as well as their family tree.

Color Selection

Breaking away from a traditional workflow, for this project the family chose an image of a chef to serve as the base for the project. Once the image had been decided the color scheme was built using colors from the image.

Fonts & Page Layout

Once the color scheme was decided, the fonts were picked. A decorative serif font was used for the titles to represent the fun, lighthearted nature of the family. It was paired with an easy-to-read san serif font for the recipes. After the fonts were chosen, a basic page layout was developed to prevent the pages from seeming too overcrowded or empty. At the bottom of the page, the name of the family member who contributed the recipe is featured. The page also features the chef image which is a repeating element throughout the recipe pages to give the book an overall sense of unity.

Family Tree

While the bulk of the book features the different recipes, an important component of this project was to display the family tree. The family tree is the link between the names on the pages and their relation to the Fischer family. The goal with this page was to create a visually interesting design that fit the theme of the rest of the book while also displaying the information in an easy-to-understand way. In order to do that, the style of the main icon was replicated to create a mixing bowl that would show the family tree
